Where are these units available from?

Obviously OEM dealers will have these headlights for sale. If you don't mind used units with some dirt and scratches on, try high end bodyshops, ebay.com or local junkyards.
There are a couple of very small companies that sells OEM HID units:

AllTheCars.com (in Georgia)

Advanced Auto Accessories (in Illenois)

HIDTech (in New York City) - Has Hella, Valeo and Bosch

HID Planet (in California)

SUV Lights (in California) - Only Sylvania units

Also this sites classified section are possible sources.

Very often just one side is available if buying used - so u have to be patient. Pricewise, anything from $100-$400 per headlight when buying used.
Before you buy units, go and check out a car or two that has them, and take it for a spin. That is the cheapest way to insure you get what you dream about.

Interpretations of beam pattern images:
Generally, be aware that pictures of headlamp beams only gives you indications of range, color and width. Most pictures are automatically color and contrast optimized, either bye the camera or while processing. Also note that the human eye cannot easily compare intensity unless the color is the same.

Image sharing:
Help yourself by helping others. We would be very thankful to get pictures of beam patterns. Even thou very few of current pictures follow this standard, the standard is now set. To make photos as comparable as possible, please use the following settings:

Manual, flash off, white balance off (or sunny) with a shutter speed of 1/80th, film speed at 160, and F-stop at F2.8.
Head on shot in the dark from 25 ft and 100 ft (7.5m and 30m).
Against the wall shot in the dark at 5, 25 and 50ft (1.5m, 7.5m and 15m) distance.
Down the road shots from the roof on a dark road.
Head on shot at daytime. (Will show cosmetic difference)

Legend:
* - HID system uses a separate ballast and igniter
** - Indicates a Bi-Xenon system
DOT - indicates US model.
Euro - indicates eropean model, only available as special import on other continents.
JDM - indicates product for Japanese Domestic Marked. For left side of the road driving only.
None - default indicates US model.

Light Output Quality:
5 - world class Xenon lighting
4 - slightly lower output, slightly uneven beam, slight colour variations across the beam, or slightly glaring
3 - lower output, noticeable hotspots, colour variations across the beam, or glaring.
2 - Halogen version is preferred.
1 - Dangerous - A miracle that manufacturer have not been sued.

There is reports that some headlamps have misalignment between low and high beam fixtures. This should be possible to resolve by inserting shims on low beam unit. Reflector is as clear as your bathroom mirror, altough it has areas that has "ribbs", which in addition to textured curved lense will decrease output. One interesting note is that the left side's (other side) cutoff cutout in that large middle cutoff assembly is mirrored of what this right side is. it is also stamped "L" instead of "R."

Size is comparable to the hella projectors found on BMW 5 series and bixenon Audi A6 that most of us are familar with though the cutoff shield assembly makes it much more bulky/larger in width and height. -

1999-2001 Mercedes-Benz C Class (Euro) O Philips D2R Bosch* Reflector - 4 After the H7 HID kit that I bought from Hid-Online.com failed after just a 3 month use, the glare was horrible with my DOT halogen headlight assemblies, so I decided to just spend more and buy the factory xenon whole headlights with washers instead. And boy these are soooo much better then aftermarket ones! No glare, the beam is spread out very nicely with a good soft cut-off, color is nicer than that of my old HID kit based on Philips Ultinon bulbs. Should have gone oem all the way in the first place. Installation was pretty much a breeze. The Headlight wiper motors attached to the bottom of the unit, and the ballasts, I didn't mount to the stock locations, I just put them where the old aftermarket ballasts once were. The only problem i ran into was that my car didn't have the harness for the wipers, so basically they are "for deckorashun" They don't work, and it's gonna cost me quite a bit more to aquire parts to make it work. So no thanks. Also The plug on my halogen unit had only 4 plugs while the one on the Xenon unit has 5. from what I've learned from reading past xenon threads was that the extra one was for the city light. I don't know what that is, but I saw a tiny extra bulb next to the xenon, so that's probably it. Basically, we just opened the harness and plugged each of the wires in individually, and the 5 plug remains untouched. We modified the harness alittle bit so that it would fit. The xenons turned on perfectly. Picture below shows blue tinted PIAAs for the highbeams bulbs, but it looks them chinky blue lights that you see on ricerockets. I'm going to take those things out and replace them with regular bulbs. All I saw in the headlights was a vacuum motor, not auto leveling...i don't know.

On both sides of the lens are openings where light comes out of and combines with the light from the main central projector lens to create the final beam pattern. The cutoff is more fuzzy then even the fuzziest projector pliepl have seen but is still sharper then a reflectors cutoff. Sort of reminds him of a really sharp reflectors cutoff (ecode reflector perhaps).

Reflector is as clear as your bathroom mirror, altough it has areas that has "ribbs", which in addition to textured curved lense will decrease output. 1999-2001	Mercedes-Benz	C Class (Euro)	O	Philips D2R	Bosch*	Reflector	-	4	After the H7 HID kit that I bought from Hid-Online.com failed after just a 3 month use, the glare was horrible with my DOT halogen headlight assemblies, so I decided to just spend more and buy the factory xenon whole headlights with washers instead. And boy these are soooo much better then aftermarket ones! No glare, the beam is spread out very nicely with a good soft cut-off, color is nicer than that of my old HID kit based on Philips Ultinon bulbs. Should have gone oem all the way in the first place. Installation was pretty much a breeze. The Headlight wiper motors attached to the bottom of the unit, and the ballasts, I didn't mount to the stock locations, I just put them where the old aftermarket ballasts once were. The only problem i ran into was that my car didn't have the harness for the wipers, so basically they are "for deckorashun" They don't work, and it's gonna cost me quite a bit more to aquire parts to make it work. So no thanks. Also The plug on my halogen unit had only 4 plugs while the one on the Xenon unit has 5. from what I've learned from reading past xenon threads was that the extra one was for the city light. I don't know what that is, but I saw a tiny extra bulb next to the xenon, so that's probably it. Basically, we just opened the harness and plugged each of the wires in individually, and the 5 plug remains untouched. We modified the harness alittle bit so that it would fit. The xenons turned on perfectly. Picture below shows blue tinted PIAAs for the highbeams bulbs, but it looks them chinky blue lights that you see on ricerockets. I'm going to take those things out and replace them with regular bulbs. All I saw in the headlights was a vacuum motor, not auto leveling...i don't know.
